Rowen has been conducting classical and popular community choirs in the Blue Mountains for over a decade. He also conducts the popular acappella Moo Choir in Warrimoo and, with Christine Wheeler, the Heathens Choir in Blackheath.
Rowen was the Musical Director of the Phoenix Choir Blue Mountains between 2012 and 2022, regularly performing major works from the classical choral repertoire. He has worked as a guest conductor for choirs across the Blue Mountains and Western Sydney: the River City Voices, the Academy Singers, Moo Choir, the Heathens, Leura Singers and the Glenbrook Community Choir. Rowen is known for his engaged rehearsal style and musical passion. He is committed to teaching choristers from a wide range of experience and skill levels, regularly running choral workshops.
Rowen conducted several massed choral and orchestral performances open to interested choristers, such as the Heathens Choir’s Bulgamada - an Indigenous Big Sing on 24 August, 2019, the Sing in the Mountains performances of Handel's Messiah on 9 April, 2017, and Mozart’s Requiem on 4 August, 2019. Rowen also conducted the 2014 and 2016 Blackheath Choir Festival's Combined Choir events, which pooled the Festival's participating choirs.
